"Sometimes I think about my inevitable departure from this place. I think about the streets that I won‘t walk on anymore, the buildings I won‘t look at anymore. The familiar strangers I won‘t pass anymore. [...] I projected parts of myself into this city. Now that I’m gone, I will never be whole again."
Through a collection of journal entries, observations and essays, I tried to process my declining mental health and the events and changes in my life. Living isolated and lonely, I formed an emotional attachment to a city and its people – without interacting with them. Existing only as a watcher, a bystander, I documented my thoughts and feelings about living next to them, abandoning them and eventually continuing without them. Watching people enter my life and watching them leave again. This book wants to speak to the people who know about feeling empty, feeling lonely, feeling nothing.
